I need to run a FB comp and I notice there seems to be no official way to do one - there are a few companies posing as 'official' comp organisers but it seems that there is no such thing. All very odd.

I need to run a comp to promote a media release - the prize is an iPod Shuffle. Nothing major and don't want to pay out a massive amount, to run a comp'. Anyone have any experience of this?

I'll wade in.

We offered a free installation to anyone liking or sharing the post in a 2 week window.

When the competition ended we printed out the likes and shares from the FB stats and printed them. Chopped up the printed paper and my daughter pulled one out of a bag. First one out was me (!) so we discarded it and went with the second.

We photographed it coming out of the bag, posted the photo and notified the winner.

Bit Luddite but it worked.

I have done it few times. Used a program called woo box which integrates with Facebook and will also to the random draw for you. Worked very well for me but it was a couple of years go, not sure if Facebook rules have changed.

Sure plenty of experience here.

You need to follow official facebook rules. Do not forget that you CANT ask people to SHARE something their timeline . This is the most common mistake people do . They can interact only with like and comment.

See I thought was the case but... every competition in my feed says 'all you have to do is 1. like this post (or comment), 2. Share this post, 3. Like our page to be in a chance to win' etc and I'm not talking about little local businesses, these are everything from car dealers to clothing brands - so how are they getting away with it?
