Part of our "plan for world domination" is a bit of OTT marketing, I quite fancy petrol pump advertising in a high net worth area with decent quality people filling up the S class etc (a typical PH village) - has anyone tried it ? they want £300 a station a month.

Also those little signs by the side of the road at junctions - £1200 a year, quite tempting and I KNOW they have been used to wind people up ie knowing the owner of your main competitors route to work and popping a sign stating your the best chimney sweep in the area on it.

Any tales of OTT marketing genius ?

How do advertising contracts on the petrol pumps work? Is it a basic subscription service over a period of time or is there more to it?

They want 3 months commitment per site but I think one site is "ok" - high traffic sites cost more than £300 and yes its untried probably crap but if we got one job from it its covered many many times over, same with roadside advert - just one job covers the whole year.

I am based on the Wirral and the largest web company here had 70 staff and was pretty big even by Southern standards - they went bust last month and we are desperate to get our newly founded brand out there and pick a few scraps from the table.

We have joined the chamber of commerce (£190) and will be offering free online clinics in the members lounge weekly, we have entered all the bullst awards dinners going just to get brand visibility and today I am ordering a few pull up banners (£28 ebay !!) to put in the car park and in the members lounge encouraging contact.

God loves a tryer!

Please don't take this the wrong way, but if you write your own copy then get someone to check it before you advertise in a high net worth area.

I know the company who does this, T4 Media I tihnk. They seem to do well and I rarely see any pump advertising its own space. Its hard not to recommend spending £300 on PPC instead though...

Its as well as, we can do PPC and SEO and even social in house now but thats not my department - I do the left of centre stuff, sponsoring kids footy teams, the signs, taxis, commission etc - I am budgeting £6k this year on "stuff" and our first BOOMF campaign hits next month which knowing my luck all the targets will be diabetic.

I was once asked if I could get hold of a donkey. Guy starting up wanted to dress it in branded 'donkey clothes' and walk it down Buchanan Street in Glasgow on a Saturday afternoon.

Everyone loves a donkey. Unfortunately I didn't have one.
