See lots of these lately!, with proms and weddings!, Limo's seem rather reasonable to buy!,
Anyone had any experience in this?

I'd imagine it's the on-going costs that would be the killer, rather than buying the car.
You have the driver's wages and bills to cover, and then the car's fuel, on-going maintenance and insurance.

And the fact most of your work will be concentrated around weekends meaning theres only a certain amount of revenue you can generate with a car PLUS all the overheads as you've listed to come out of that smallish window of earning opportunity.

I do weddings. You don't need a licence for them but you do for proms and the like.

in 2005/5 I ran a Hummer Limo.....very cut throat game. hard to compete against dodgy operators when you are doing everything by the book
