So its not enough having the fastest growing web marketing agency in Birkenhead* we decided to get a young gifted jewellery designer to make a concept range of mens bracelets initially for a kickstarter.

I dont wear anything other than a watch neither do Pete n Dan but this guy had a pop up shop last xmas and thats when we noticed him, we then realised he was a pal of Dans sister and the relationship started.

Basically NorthSkull have nailed skully type stuff so we thought more concept with a bit of GoT influence, the designer is working on designs and we apparently use leather, wood and silver then assemble them in the UK.

To make the samples he makes a wax mould and casts them (I think) - we see the designs and concept next week! For KS we need a bit of a backstory and our designer (who will get 25% of the new company if it has legs) has this as a major part of the brief.

Initial investment to get samples and KS going about £5k (inc video) ...... watch this space.

  • May not be true (Birkenhead is the silicon valley of the UK apparently)

Good luck. Not something I'd invest in, though!

MrsC makes cast silver jewellery (solid 999 silver), and she comes up with (IMO) some very imaginative and inventive designs but she's lucky if she sells one piece (typically £20-50) a month although to be fair she's not marketing them aggressively. Too much competition though. She sometimes looks at seasonal things (Xmas, Halloween, etc) and notable events (e.g. the lightning bolt when Bowie died). She just treats it as a hobby as she likes making things.

Examples:

Lots more besides this!

They look interesting, what have you done to market them? A different market to our target though who will be a bit "of the moment" "certified London" types - we also have in house the social and web marketing and our influencer strategy is working well with us for other clients. The other guys really want to do it so I'm a bit of a bystander but it's interesting and risks are minimal.

Marketing on Instagram and Facebook via specialist groups could be a goer.

with a bit of GoT influence
Be very careful with this. Many small time designers "take influence" but end up infringing on copyright artwork. You need to be 100% sure you're not infringing copyright here. Your designer might see a one second section of the intro and then use part of that in a design. The level of copyright protection the big boys use now is incredible.

There isn't one, it's an advert dressed up as a post.

URL registered, new company being formed with 4 shareholders and a small loan from Velstar to kick it off - next step is we decide on the foundation range, get costings and put together the marketing strategy.

Our designer has Chinese heritage and we are playing on that with company name and the ethnicity of the product.

Challenge is differentiating from the crap thats on Ali Baba !!!

Easy. Make sure it's not lightweight and tiny, that stuff is made of gold rather than plated.

Would love to hear the back story to the KS campaign after the effect; what you did, how you marketed it, costs etc. I'm itching to use KS.

Ah sorry we have decided not to use KS as there is a bit of a backlash against brands "just selling" stuff on the platform. Our marketing for this needs a lot of thought and I will be honest (as ever) on whats worked and what has not - I am thinking influencer but its not my call so we shall see.

A bracelet for a man? I'm guessing your market isn't Birkenhead.

Can't say I know of or have ever seen a man wearing one.

Sorry but it's tickled me to think our as yet unmade and uncosted bracelet type thing hinges on my getting a few PH Hoxton types on board - This isn't my project but the other people I work with want to do it so we're flying a kite. I've tried to detail the process so far and apart from finding a ridiculously talented graduate by fluke (he had a pop up shop in Birkenhead last Xmas) were now setting up a 4 way split company. Were naming the company after the designer (.co.uk was available but .com was $900 so just uk for now) and we have taken his concept to a mixed target of trendies working on a possibly flawed assumption that a large proportion of buyers will be wives and partners, aiming at the pink pound is also part of the campaign.
I'll update when something happens but this is nowhere near an advert - however the new TVR range of gold Ingot on chains (may not be gold) in the shape of the new car are ready to be cast (injection moulded) the second they unveil the bugger. (This is a joke mods)

Sorry I missed this to comment on, with regard to sales we will rely on influencer marketing and paid social, we will be using the latest click to buy social apps making the impulsive buy process as fast and painless (and thought free) as possible. This would cost ££££ but as it's mainly time for our people and we're all in a profit share its not being allocated hard budget.
Influencers cost a lot but they are getting cleverer and some want their own websites and brands, we're hoping to do a deal with one or two otherwise this will be the biggest cost of the project.
