Manufacturing - Carbon fibre
Discussion
My company currently has carbon fibre products manufacturered in the Far East and imported to the uk.
My aim has always been to bring manufacturing to closer to home to cut out the whole import process and keep a better eye on QC.
Is there any members on here who work within this industry and could take a look over our product for an approximate quote?
I'm not expecting pricing to be as competitive as the Far East btw.
Thanks in advance

Bit worrying that so much is being made abroad, I used to work in the industry, was mostly based in the uk as I remember.
Most of it is done in the U.K, especially anything of any visual quality or structural integrity. markcoznottz said:
I know the motorsports is, but was talking to someone about these cheap Chinese carbon bike frames coming in and he was amazed at the quality fir the price.
That's fair enough... I helped my friend repair his 'bargain' carbon paramotor frame from abroad last week... we cut in to it and it was quite shocking to see how dangerous the thing actually was. You've got to be quite careful buying this stuff from places like China.CX53 said:

You don't happen to know a mate of mine? Called steve, works in composites at Mercedes in brackley. Long shot I know.
Possibly, the world of F1 is quite small! Is he a laminator or trimmer/fitter? Or something else?

Yeah screw that. Luckily he lives in brackley.
He took me around the place a few years ago. Pretty mind blowing and that was just the stuff he was allowed to show me.
F1 teams aren't all that, male dominated, highish nerd factor. Despite what some employees think, it's a factory environment. He took me around the place a few years ago. Pretty mind blowing and that was just the stuff he was allowed to show me.

Agreed, glorified factory job (in composites anyway), some tend to think it's a lot more... For me personally it's a money trap and I'd get out if I could. Don't get the nerd factor at our place though. To those who haven't worked in the industry I can see why an F1 team would be a cool place to visit.

When you look at developments like techniques for higher volumes and increased automation the UK looks less attractive, we just don't seem to invest the same way as is done in other similar economies in central europe.
