Hello

I am starting a new role on 4th September and I will be the first sales employee of that company due to them never having to find business before, it all naturally came to them.

The role I am leaving doesn't have a sales CRM/software for us to use when marketing for business and it's always bugged me having to rely on an excel document, whereas in previous roles i've used things like Goldmine and Espada. I've always felt i was never as efficient or productive as I could be by using a software to prompt me to make contact on certain dates or log all conversations/notes.

I mentioned this to my new boss and he said to find a cheap one and he'll sort it for me. But I am a bit lost as to what I need. I used Goldmine about 8 years ago and I think Espada was a custom in-house software.

Budget is around £50 a month, i will be the only user for now but in the next 12 months there should be some other sales guys to work underneath me.

Goldmine looks to be about $55 a month

I don't need it to be fancy in any way, it doesn't need to link with any other bits of software, just literally allow me to do some sales progression, log company details, contacts, conversations and set reminders for me to call them back on certain dates (so it just just gives me a list of companies to call on a particular date I've set)

Anyone have any recommendations?

Salesforce would be my recommendation.

I used Goldmine over 10 years ago and it was OK, especially if you used it for email campaigns but in a later role I used Salesforce and preferred it.

it depends on what you want it to do, but for regular CRM usage looked at a number of the free CRM's and shortlisted Zoho and Hubspot, and because of the ability to customise fields, I selected Hubspot. Their paid marketing services are something I will look at again in the future if I need them. I have been using it for the past 6 months, and have to say I am very impressed. There are some limitations (for me they were around the reporting), but with some exports and xls formula's I can now get all I need. I'll also want to review their data policies in light of GDPR, but that I'd need to do that of who I chose.

Sure - Salesforce is much, much more powerful, but equally, much more expensive, and requires a lot more management time to get the most from it. Something I could not justify.

So - if you have any time, and you think they may fit, I'd suggest you take a look at those two at the least.

Also have a look at Podio.
