Well, we need 4 but for now, 2 will have to do, and they just have to be Macs (why?) so how do I insure them for loss or damage, please.

Cheers Dave

Do you have an office policy?

If so you should be able to add them to that.

If you have an Office policy in place - or as a section within a Professional Indemnity policy - you should be able to add the Laptops under the 'Specified All Risks' section. You'll be able to cover them just in the UK, EU or Worldwide.

For smaller companies that don't have an office as such - I insure my company MacBook and iPhone via Mobiru for a pretty reasonable price.

Many home insurers will do an extension if you run a business from home as well - worth exploring all options.

I thought the fact that the assets belong to a Ltd co would complicate that so didn't even ask to be honest - interesting though.

Some insurers will do an extension intended to cover micro businesses run from home (eg a consultant)

Not all of them will do that so it can be cheaper/easier to buy stand alone cover.

I'd also look at something like 'Prey' which can be installed and will locate the laptops if they are stolen or lost.. https://www.preyproject.com

Especially if you've only got a handful of devices - it can be installed on up to 3 devices for free.

DONT just have them on your standard business policy and think they are covered when away from the insured business address.

I did, had it stolen from my van while on site and insurance didnt cover it.

Now added as a specified risk so I can carry it with me.

V.

ps, need to talk to you about a webby or two.

Would you not still struggle in that scenario because it was stolen from a vehicle?

options:

1. easy way - add to your office policy as specified all risk items

2. take out a computers policy, usually slightly cheaper with wider cover

happy to help sort any of these options out

Just to finish this thread - Hiscox our existing insurers agreed to cover the 2 Airs and 1 Pro for free as we had all our other insurance with them.

Interesting as I just phoned Hiscox off the back of that to see if they will add it to my PI and they wanted £80+ for one £900 laptop.

We are via a broker

Hi Dave

No they won’t increase, as the charge was so minimal insurers have waivered the additional premium.

Kind Regards

You are probably on minimum premium per section so the additional keeps it below that.

Fair result really.
