Hi guys,

Just a quick bit of market research.

How much per month would you consider fair to rent
A) motorcycle lift
B) 2 post car lift

Per month, fully fitted out workshop with lighting, heating, compressor, workbenches and vices etc... with use of lathe, wash tank, welder and basic power tools.

No general service and repair.
Just amateurs working on their project or race car/bike

East Midlands area

Any feedback welcome

Thanks
Jack

You're asking a difficult question as when you normally rent a unit/workshop, it's normally without tools/equipment and hence you pay rent, business rates (depending on the size of the building as small business rates relief may apply), buildings insurance and utility costs etc. before you fill the place with potentially expensive equipment.

As a rough example, if the rent is £5psf, then the rates would be approx 50% of the rent plus the other costs already mentioned. It's difficult to put a price on the use of equipment as it sounds like you might be dealing with a friend/acquaintance possibly?

Hi guys,

Thanks for responces although there's a bit of misunderstanding I think.

I have the unit and the equipment, I'm gauging interest to possibly change the direction of the business.

Will be looking to offer space for people who don't have a garage or equipment at home.

We will have 1-2 car ramps for the business projects and restos then depending on demand, a mix of bike and car lifts to hire out on weekly/monthly basis.

Based in Lincoln, we've got a few projects to finish first, looking to do this in around 4-6 months.

Thanks,
Jack

No idea about the charges but if you are letting the great unwashed lose on that gear make sure you are insured up to your eyeballs. laugh

That's because you missed most of the info from your post.

I can't imagine insuring potentially seriously dangerous equipment like that against the general public being very simple or affordable, if you haven't already i'd investigate how you'd do it or get a price on that first.

As people have already offered services like this in the past I would find them and see how much they charge, if they no longer do it, well....
