Looking for a bit of advice on chemical toilets... odd but bare with me.

OK so I have a new business that is completely off-grid, it will run 1-3 days a week, and expect about 20 people on-site on these days.

I need a toilet solution.

So option 1 is a septic tank + proper toilets, this is an option for the future but need surveys etc first, it may not be possible.

Option 2 is port-a-loos.
- I hate the things.
How much is the cost to either rent & service, or Buy & Service, or Buy used and just get a service company in ad-hoc when its brimmed ;-)

Option 3 is to go a DIY route, proper toilets & some sort of storage tank that I get emptied...

Hmm...

Unless your niche USP is dealing with mingers or the poor, on no account do portaloos on the cheap. You can get some really nice(!) ones these days, and everyone with a shred of decency and/or money will expect them to be immaculately clean and in no way nearly brimming. Wise man say: don't scrimp on your bogs.

Start with a serviced contract and then see how you get on.

(That was a joke!!)
That's the thing, I HATE these things, everyone does. god forbid you need a no2...!!

I'd rather build a nice toilet block with proper toilets and basins etc and have some sort of holding tank or recirculating system....

Just hoping someone on here knows about bogs!

If it is completely off-grid, then surely composting bogs are the way forward?

Echo the comments above, if it ain't a music festival then they need to be clean and smell nice!

Could that work in a commercial environment?

I'm not going to train people how to use the thing.....

Have you not seen the "trendy" porta-loos that are effectively quite nice toilets that come as a porta-hut style thing on the back of a lorry? Could these not be a short term solution for the time being?

They are just huts that get delivered on a truck with a crane (for lifting them on and off) and have normal flushing toilets/hand washing basins inside. Been in a few that are not really any different to an inside loo.

I have seen those yes, however they are very expensive for a long-term rental. Fine for a few days but not a few months.

Surely just build a loo, in a nice insulated cedar clad wooden building, have a freshwater tank, and a waste tank (you can get black 1000L IBC's) and get a company to come and empty it when needed.

no digging, no discharge licences,

Easy!

That's exactly what id like to do, however I'm not sure you can do that legally.

Someone told me thats what black IBC's were for, clear for fresh, black for waste.

Call a local septic emptying company and ask their opinion, they will know all the regs and will know if they will collect from a IBC etc.

This website also states "Black IBC's are also perfect for effluent/waste storage."

However dont take their word for it, get advice!
