I'm interested in listing a single product on Amazon UK only. For the listing they're asking for either a GTIN, EAN, ASIN, GCID or UPC and it seems there are multiple types of each.

The product has no options at all - no colour, size, length etc, and I only want to sell to gauge interest, so will be doing so under an Individual Seller Plan.

How are the codes generated, and which is the most appropriate code type to enter in the product listing please - I understand the AISN is generated from an existing code.

If an existing identical product was listed on Amazon UK, could I copy and paste the ASIN, or does it ID the specific seller as well as product?

Selling on Amazon? You'll need GS1 numbers and barcodes

That should tell you all you need to know. The first part of the code identifies the originator of the code, you then generate the remaining numbers and allocated to your product.

If your product already has codes then I'd use those, although surely Amazon would show the exact same product available elsewhere during a search.

If you're making and labelling the product then just register and generate your own codes.

I've only used EAN codes for internal stock control/EDI/retail, no experience as an Amazon seller.
