Council sent bills to empty property owned by a ltd company, said bills obviously went unpaid and they issued court proceedings .Court summons and judgments were made to the rental property.Company knew nothing about it until bailiffs contacted them.
I thought any court summons against a ltd company must be made to its registered address or a place of business or are councils exempt from this with regards to council tax ?

A suspect the difference for council tax is that it is not a hearing seeking payment. The magistrate court for a council tax is to confirm a party is liable to pay. Once it is confirmed you are liable then a process to actually claim that payment starts.

Its not very often that liability to pay is contested.
