Watching English tv they are advertising at every oppertunity, also on French media platforms.

Are we getting to a point where you have to sell via Amazon to compete or make volume sales.

FWIW, sales on the e-commerce business I have an investment in grew at double the rate on the core website compared to Amazon.

We've managed to pretty much get rid of Amazon over the last year. Our on line sales were double last month compared to a year ago.

It could equally be that they are having to ramp up their marketing to try and retain share.

If you're customers on are that platform, I don't know why any business would ignore one of the biggest global ecommerce platforms. But it shouldn't be at the expense of other sales channels and should also not be your sole sales channel.

Their business practises are tantamount to racketeering FWIW, I have supplied them for years now and they seem to get worse every year.

I think if we got rid of them tomorrow we'd probably be more profitable. In fact I think the MD has asked the accounting team to do a full review of all the costs associated in order to ascertain whether we should just tell them to fk off.

The fact that they let the Chinese run scam reviews of products and turn a blind eye to it is a complete piss take.

I bought a mattress last week thinking i had got a good deal when reviewing other mattress stores online.

I ordered and waited for Next day delivery, I thought, great i'd bought from a retailer and not needed to price compare etc.

Browsing amazon for something else i remember to put in my mattress for a laugh....I wasn't laughing as i was half price!

I phoned the original shop up to inform them of the bad news...they said ok we'll refund you but need shipping costs....i then said would you want to counter offer something off as i'd rather give them the business than AMZ, the immediate response was no!

Even with the shipping costs added to original order it was 150 quid cheaper.

The super markets did this to local convenience stores....we are just seeing it at a bigger scale.

With Amazon and to a slightly lesser extent eBay it all depends on what you're selling. If you're selling the same drop-shipped Chinese stuff that thousands of others are then it's just a race to the bottom competing against those who don't understand that cash flow doesn't mean profit.

If you're selling your own goods or niche goods that only a handful of others do then it can be useful selling on both platforms to attract new customers but move them onto your own website as soon as possible.

It’s just another route to market, in consumer generic retail then google shopping is a far more essential and potentially £££ service.
