I just wondered if any of you could recommend any good accountants in London who have experience with start up rec agencies looking to grow and maybe sell.

I have a couple of accountants I am deciding on who both seem very good. 1 has Rec agency experience but not of a rec agency that grew to sale. Makes me think there must be some value to be had from dealing with an accountant who has seen an agency through a sale.

Any advice much appreciated

Thanks

Can’t help with an accountant recommendation I’m afraid, but have you considered a NED to help with that?

I’ve worked with a couple of recruitment businesses as a NED / board advisor from start up to sale.

Accountants are only one side of the story, sharing real world commercial / operational experience is much more valuable IMHO. Accountants can help to ensure the numbers are presented correctly and that the business stands up to the scrutiny of due diligence .

I did consider it (somewhat accidentally to be honest) but on reflection realised that for me it would probably be a very bad idea.

I consider myself a good recruiter because I genuinely care about the market I work in but whilst I will certainly trade off that in the short term I don't want to be "recruiting" in the long term. The operational and commercial "journey" is exactly what excites me about setting up so I wouldn't want to give that eperience away.

That being said I would love a mentor, i just don't have any desire to give away equity for advice.

I have no idea how mature your business is so can’t make too many comments but most NEDs work on day rate / salary and don’t need equity unless they have got their chq books out to invest.

If you don’t want to pay for advice and the business is young I’d suggest getting a loan from the Start Up Loans scheme who hook you up with a mentor FOC.
