I've done no research yet, as we're mulling over several ideas.

We have some surplus stock to get rid of. It's new, and own brand, which is known and respected. Stuff with RRPs of between £40 and £300

What do surplus stock buyers generally pay? Is it 5p in the £, or 50p?

very much towards the lower end of that

consider carefully where it might end up once it is out of your control

It's what they will do with it which is stopping us. If they pay a decent amount for it, they can do what they like, but we're not prepared to sell cheap and then see it in Poundland!

What type of stock is it and what sort of quantities? We may have clients who are interested I can always bounce it off - pm if you prefer.

The difference between best and worst price can be enormous

Do you need the money / space? Have you spare time ? Is it retailable? Ebayable ?

Either put someone on a generous commission with a minimum price

or

Put it behind you, shut your eyes and destroy it.

But

Don't devalue your product by giving it away.

Maybe let the taxman help you and write down its stock value in order to cash in later.
