Be very careful about posting on this.

Further do not have texts on your phone with your gf discussing your desire to move in with her. If found on your phone at immigration you can end up with a permanent ban.

I suggest you talk to your company if you wish to relocate and contact an immigration specialist. The US is very tricky on immigration these days.

You're pretty much at the mercy of your employer..

As I'm sure you know, you can stay for upto 90 days on your ESTA.. And re enter multiple times a year.

If you do move out, you should get a salary enhancement, but also worse employment protection.

If you just want to test the water, is there a reason you wouldn't stay at your partners place for say 10 weeks, to see how you get on before committing?

Then give her a house, That’s what happens when you marry then divorce.

Yes I’ve been there and I’m a cynical bar steward.

If you’re that way inclined and not equally asset matched, that’s what God invented prenuptial agreements for!

I’m not doubting your comment regarding posting this thread/text messages...just curious and genuine question...is it something you have experience of regarding posts on the internet or looking through phones? The OP would be easy to link as he’s generous with his information. smile

Pre nups are not binding in the UK. Perhaps they are in the USA.

That’s not strictly true. It depends on the individual circumstances. In the USA they are.

There was a recent news story that involved texts to an other half, it wasn't a great ending.

I'm not gonna lie, I've been on a night out, drunk, need sleep, so can't link to it, but i think it was on the BBC I read it.

But yeah, no texts is a good thing.
Sorry, I can't be of much help right now.

I live in Canada and am in the US frequently. There is a randomness now and if there is the slightest doubt about your interest in staying your phone and laptop will be searched. If you refuse your password you will be denied entry.

Just be sensible.

Reminds me of when I flew to LA to stay with a woman I'd met on line 6 months earlier.

The ESTA queue was not working so after 2 hours I was finally standing in front of the jumped up little Mexican toad with a gun who bombarded me with personal questions in front of an audience of 100s.

I wanted to yell at him that I had a Mustang GT parked outside my cottage in Surrey, a good job and a house in London. Why the F would I want to stay in your backward little ry.

I didn't and just was polite.

His final question was 'Are you intending to have sexual relations with this woman?'

You know what, later that evening, in a suburb in North LA, I bloody well did hehe

Yes they can inspect your phone and laptop, etc. Refusal will probably result in denial of entry.

ESTA will not allow you to take paid work (as in being paid by US co) and if they get suspicious they may revoke it and ask you to get a visa.

Know a few lads that were heading to New York for the summer where play a bit of football and do some work on the side. They were stopped leaving Dublin airport for questionning by immigration who found their story didnt add up.

They then requested one of their phones and found emails stating they would be starting work on a certain day. One of the group had already boarded the plane and was frog marched off it.
