Nothing to do with me! Friend has a part time employee who has been with the business for about 3 years. But is not “fitting in at all” . The part of the business he works in is been sold. And the new owner certainly will not employ him etc .

What is the legal process that has to be followed 100% to terminate employment ?

If it's a big firm, ask HR.

If it's a small firm, ask the FSB (they should be a member, if not it's ~£100 and lets you talk to an employment lawyer)

Been with the business for 3 years but they’re only deciding now that this person doesn’t fit in...?

Pay them their redundancy and with a bit of luck this person will find a better place to work with bosses who can actually make timely decisions?

The business is being sold.... isn’t that the worst possible time to try and get rid of someone? TUPE etc?
