EORI - Unsuccessful, no explanation...
Discussion
I run a tiny digital agency, just me and my wife, we have one client based in the EU who we work with on a weekly basis - I recently applied for the EORI number that we may potentially need to continue to do business in the EU following Oct 31st, all simple enough and I can see or think of absolutely no reason why we wouldn't be granted with such a number - Today I receive an email telling me that my application was unsuccessful, no explanation or reason whatsoever but a number to ring - I have tried 4 times today to ring the number and each and every time after the lengthy robotic process ends they simply say the volume of calls is too great currently, apologise and hang up without even an option to remain on hold.
Have any other business owners applied for an EORI number and been unsuccessful? and if so have you found out why? I'm stumped and without any way currently to get in touch with HMRC (I'll keep trying of course) then currently and very frustratingly it looks like I will have a real problem doing business with my valued client next month.

Why do you need an EORI if you are a digital business as those are for moving goods?
Ok thank you, appreciate the response - Feeling rather foolish then - but if this is the case, why have I been sent three separate letters telling me that I need one? Ignore it, you don't need an EORI. In an ideal world they would have told you why it was rejected but hey ho
Think this is bad received a letter form HMRC today as below
Thank you for your letter which was dated 7 May 2018. this letter was received in HMRC 26 July 2019
