Was surprised by the finances of York Bridge Club when I read this article

https://www.yorkpress.co.uk/news/18173537.pictures...

Building a new building, with 20 car park spaces just for playing bridge in!

It's nice to see a quiet sociable pastime/game/club having the membership and funds to do it.

Along the same lines. I recently started a new job in the city. Walking to the tube I walked past the rather nice offices of the royal philatelic society in abchurch lane. How does a couple of thousand stamp collectors afford digs like those.

According to companies house, they've got £93k in the bank, a building worth £275k (looks like they bought both sides of a semi-detached house and knocked through) as well as a £45k property fund!

Clearly been managed very well smile

Or bought the property that they are currently in ages ago, and have been left some money from a few now departed members.

£275k is a low valuation - it was valued in May 2012 according to the accounts. I think you could add the thick end of £100k to that and still be on the lowvside
