Salesforce basic product settings
Discussion
Anyone on here use Salesforce? I have just signed up for the trial as we have been looking at various CRM systems and I like the look of the Lightning system.
I can not seem to be able to figure out the simplest of things and its really annoying me.
Most of our customers pay us monthly and I was looking to add the repeat monthly billing in per client.
I have added the account / contact no problem, but can not find anything which allows me to add a product / service with a monthly payment.
I tried adding a product, but this doesn't have a price.
An order just has a value field, with no frequency.
Clearly I am missing something very obvious.

I work with SFDC everyday and have a few of the admin certs although I don't really configure much these days.
You could create custom objects/fields for what you want of course but I don't know exactly know what limitations the trial version has.
However they have a free training platform that anyone can use called trailhead - I still use it now to learn little bits and pieces and it is a good way to learn.
I recommend that you create an account and have a search for what you want, I quickly searched on products and price books in the following link;
https://trailhead.salesforce.com/en/content/learn/...
Also a lot of resource on Youtube too which might help with your demo version.

I picked Salesforce for my company. The only side point I would mention if you are at the early stage of picking them - once you get into the system you will likely find you need their 'enterprise' version. I can not seem to be able to figure out the simplest of things and its really annoying me.

By the time I realised, I had already paid a consultant to migrate all of our data into Salesforce and we had done all of the initial setup. I was expecting to use one of their lower tiers, but after a few weeks, it became clear that wasn't going to work.
In terms of configuring the system, I would advise finding a good value salesforce developer. I use a company in India to do all of the coding we need for Salesforce - they charge around $18/hr and have been able to implement some complex customisation for me. So at that price, it wasn't worth trying to learn the backend of the system.
If you want the name of the Indian company who do our salesforce development just send me a PM.
We've been using the base level of the product for 3.5 years now, all our billing is handled by our Accountancy product though (Xero) which you can integrate into Salesforce using something like Breadwinner.
At some point we'll need to bite the bullet and get someone in to upgrade us to Enterprise though.
There's an ever growing wish list of things building up that you can't do in the lower tiers.

Many thanks for your replies.
I can't believe I missed such an obvious requirement and assumed it would work out of the box.
Its the professional version we are using. Almost all of the youtube videos I can find are the classic version, not lightning which we have.
Sounds like I will need someone to help us set it up. Eddie, I will drop you a message in a min.

I don't know if new deployments are different but we still have the ability to switch back to Classic.
Just click your username and the top right and if the option is there I found myself switching back to that to follow a few guides. It depends on the actual changes you're making as to how well that ports back into Lightning.

I actually run a Salesforce consulting practice here in the UK, we help businesses get the best value out of Salesforce
