Any recommended systems for employee and visitor check-in/check-out?

Primary purpose to know which of the 20 or so employees are in, and might be left working alone somewhere in the building, or whether it's worth trying to tannoy them if a call comes in for them. For those guys check in / out needs to be super simple such as touching a fob on a pad as they come in from or head out to their cars. There are two possible doors that they might use when arriving or leaving.

Secondary purpose would be a visitor record, the nature of the business is they tend to stay all day rather than just a few minutes. Is there any kind of screen and keyboard based device that could be attached to the wall inside the visitor entrance (there's not really any room for a table there) on which they could very quickly record their name / who they're seeing / car reg, and also check out again when they leave?

Thanks for any ideas

We have an employee system called planday recently installed on an ipad,on the wall in a security cage,it seems ok but its only been a week, you could probably add a visitor category.

We use a physical t-card system. Ultra simple. We also put our mobile numbers on the card so that if you might have left yourself tagged in during an emergency people can call you. We also have visitor t-cards (1-9) and a sign in book for visitors. This assumes of course that your t-card area is secure as you have people’s phone numbers on the t-card.
