I'm looking to use the services of an ad agency to do the following:

Create new website with SEO to get us visible on google etc - the company already has a website which isn't great and on the wrong url
Create social media postings or at least get us started to raise profile and online visibility
Possibly come up with an ad campaign to improve company profile within the industry - this should be a co-ordinated approach over a medium period of time (ie not all at once)

I've spoken to one agency so far who have said all the right things however they have offered, as a starting point, to write up a company audit to better understand from everyone's point of view (ours and theirs) what the current company profile is and how we're viewed in the industry before we move forward with any marketing/PR - we will be charged for this

Any questions i should be asking in particular?

Sounds like they are a marketing agency when you seen to be looking for a digital marketing agency not quite the same thing.

Is this e-commerce or are you a service / destination?

Not sure there are any non digital marketing agencies left. It's mostly digital these days. Although Ad Agencies is very much an 80's terms when some agencies just did advertising.

Fundamentally marketing has not changed, we've just changed the tools we use. Their approach seems good. You can't market a new client if you don't understand their business.

Your right, I must stop doing quick replies when I should be having my beauty sleep.

Thanks for that, wouldn't this be an investment from an agency's point of view or is this the MO of an agency these days?

In terms of the site, it will be a portal to showcase what we do and why we're good at it but there will also be an element of ecommerce for sales of spare parts rather than finished goods - the business is in manufacturing

A good agency needs to know as much - if not more - about you and your market than you do. The outcome of that insight will benefit you beyond the brief you give to them so is right that they charge for this.

It's fundamental good marketing practice so don't expect it from many agencies! hehe
