Any taxi corp owners or taxi drivers here?
Discussion
Since our sign making business is at standstill we are thinking about utilizing machinery and skills enabling us to produce screens dividing drivers from passengers for any vehicle looking for a bit of a feedback on the idea and indication of what budgets if any could be available so that we could better tailor our offering (we could use various materials) these screens could provide protection from stabbing, robbery and reduce risk of infection as well.

Supermarkets are introducing plastic barriers to protect cashiers. Is this an option?
Good shout but we already started making these for others but it seems like everyone is on it now - I though about something serving more than one purpouse and not nceserly riding the coivd wave only to simply die out with it...As a former private hire driver, it would be a good idea.
Main points would be; include a full seat back. Some makes of vehicle have solid backs, but many have ordinary material backs that a long knife would go straight through. Have the back curve around the seat for a good 6 inches, larger around the neck area to discourage strangulation. Also make sure a rear seat passengers have enough room to hand over cash. Make it easy to remove, ie utilise the headrest holes to secure etc

Hi
Given that black cabs already have dividers would I be right in thinking that you're looking at Private Hire Minicabs (Avensis/Octavia/Mondeo etc)?
If so, would they not have to be tailor-made for each model?
Tbh i think it's a non-starter. The taxi business is currently non-existent so COVID19 won't be an issue. I noticed in Cheetham Hill yesterday that most cabbies were wearing gloves/masks and, in terms of protection, any scrotes will simply get out and open the drivers door.

Yest it's the private hire drivers we would like to aim these for and yes they would have to be made to suit each vehicle which wouldn't be much of a problem...jsut time consuming for the first vehicle of each make/model.Given that black cabs already have dividers would I be right in thinking that you're looking at Private Hire Minicabs (Avensis/Octavia/Mondeo etc)?

I have a friend who stopped driving to avoid covid19 and he's been making thin clear plastic cab divider for he's passat for last couple of days in order to get back to work...unfortunately he's not having much luck fixing it securely. He can't be the only one?

The thing is - the plastic might be fine for airborne COVID but so would a surgical mask (and a lot cheaper as well). the main risk is going to be from cash handling ad a plastic scree wont help with that afaics.I have a friend who stopped driving to avoid covid19 and he's been making thin clear plastic cab divider for he's passat for last couple of days in order to get back to work...unfortunately he's not having much luck fixing it securely. I thought they had established surgical masks were no good?I run a taxi/private hire company. There was a company producing these a few years ago. They had them at one of the trade shows and they also advertised in 'Taxi & Private Hire Monthly' which is the main trade mag. From memory they were one piece and went completely across the back of the two front seats. They fitted with straps around the seats at the base and near to the headrest. A quick google finds 'cab safe security' seem to be offering a similar product to what I saw but seem to fit way more securely.
