During the lockdown, I've been making pizzas and giving them neighbours for free but recently they asked if I'd start selling them as their friends want them. Last night I took £230 in sales to neighbours friends. It's cost about £10 in fuel and about £25 in ingredients. I'm now getting messages asking for more tonight and it's not even 9am!

I think this has got a bit out of hand now and feel I've sleepwalked into setting up an illegal catering business from home.

I think I'm breaking the law and I either have to stop or look at a way to do this legitimately.

What laws am I breaking and is there a way of doing this legally.

With regards to tax, I am already on self assessment and will declare this as it is income but surely, me knocking together pizzas in my garage and kitchen can't be right.

I think you need to register with your local authority and then inspections etc. would follow (subject to lockdown restrictions).

I’m not sure that’s true.

I would have thought you need a food safety/hygiene certificate?

My friend brews beer and has had to jump through quite a few hoops to get to a point where he can actually brew to sell to the public.

Probably pretty low down the priority list if you keep it small scale.

Do you think the public sector employees at home on full pay will be clamouring to get to work to check up on someone just trying to make ends meet in hard times?

Go for it, you have a talent and demand will be there after Corona. Out of crisis comes opportunity.
Do it legally, invest a little, offer referral discounts to customers and get a load of drinks etc.
Go heavy on hygiene make it a selling point and watch your business fly.
Just do it!! Call it LUDO Pizzas 🍕

As usual, I ask for help here and within a couple of hours I get realy helpful encouraging advice. Thank you.

This is still at the "it's fun" stage.

I want to avoid pissing anyone off or dropping myself in hot water.

My kitchen is just a domestic kitchen but I have a good cleaner who accepts payment in sex but only off me. She's been quite clingy since we attended some kind of church do a while back.

I think I will limit it to those in immediate streets around me and I think there is a degree of novelty attached so I'm sure it will self control to a degree.

This wasn't intended to be a commercial enterprise but I suppose I should makke hay in the port during the storm, or however the phrase goes.

I don't know about the cooking at home etc, but you'll most likely need business insurance if you are doing deliveries.

Well done, you've started a business. it really depends if you want to do this full time. Key challenge is working at the sociable hours when everyone else is socialising but build slowly and you're off. Nice one

New model: Free pizza so you're not selling food, but then charge for delivery £x per quarter mile, minimum delivery charge.
