Card acquiring services - iZettle etc
Discussion
I use iZettle for a few functions & auctions I host each year - it's excellent.
It's very simple to set up, very simple to use and, because there's no annual subscription, is very cost effective ie you only pay when you use it.
I've recommended it highly on here before, and I've had no experiences which would make me alter that.

We use Square - primarily because we can enter sales directly into a PC and print a receipt.
Using the PC is way quicker than messing on a tablet and it's useful to give the customer some sort of proof of transaction
iZettle didn't have that facility when I was looking. This may no longer be the case.
The downside is that entering sales into the PC app counts as 'customer not present' and incurs a higher fee.
You don't even need to buy the card reader to use Square so it's easy and free to set up an account and see if you like it.

What's everyones favourite recommended card acquirer? no online business, just cards through the terminal, cp/cnp.
Thinking of iZettle - any thoughts?

tbh, especially at those prices. The fees are high, or certainly feel like it when you're talking £100 or more per transaction. If you do any sort of volume it ends up cheaper to take a contract with a 'proper' one, pay a monthly fee and have a smaller %age on the transactions.Plus there's the great times like today, when the reader simply will not accept the customer's card, so you're left standing on their doorstep like a total bellend, looking amateur as f
k. Works perfect with my debit card, will not recognise customer's credit card. Second time in a row now, several months apart, clearly not fixed by them the last time I complained. For those two reasons I'll go to great lengths to avoid using it, by trying to get payment by any other means possible.
I use IZettle for my business. Costs are reasonable unless your putting a massive amount through it. Just reviewed it and looked into different merchant services but even tied into 2 year contracts the difference was too small to move away from IZettle. Our payments we receive are typically a couple of hundred but we do take occasional larger payments too.
I can help you with that. I'm in the industry. iZettle are great for low cost entry to card payments, but their fees rack up once you are taking over 2/2.5K per month.
I can get you set up with a card machine, with an attached free MOTO account if you need to take deposits over the phone and remain PCI compliant. Drop me a message if you would like to discuss further

retail merchant services would be on my list of ones to consider
Only as long as you take vanilla bank /Visa cards - RMS's charges for everything else round the edges are usurious. We use Payment Sense, they have been pretty good. Worldpay are the big Kahuna but not that cheap.
Advise not to take AMEX before you are sure about the rates they will charge you & you also understand their accounting process.

Persistent/never ending rental fees for a 5 year old terminal are irritating though
(but its the industry wide scam, as we all know)Wombat3 said:

(but its the industry wide scam, as we all know)Also, if you've had it 5 years, you'll be due for renewal, which can be at 3 years, OR, offline I can tip you the wink about something that might be useful?
Or drop me a line, whichever works

I’d be interested in how you don’t have to pay rental on the card machines. Currently with iZettle and been very happy, however since going back after the CV19 break we have lots more card sales (about £12k / month) so going to ditch it very soon.

Hi, have dropped you a couple of message. Give me a shout if you want to pick up the discussion If you want to PM me with details. Ta

I have one client, and only one client, who likes to pay by amex, i think because it gives them points. Invoice is usually about £1500 a month. The cheapest solution i have found is netpay as a costco member. Costs work out about £20 a payment, or around 1.3%. I' be interested if anyone knows of anything cheaper as it is the 9.50 a month plus vat fee for the machine I never use that really irritates. I am trying to persuade them to pay on invoice but so far without success!

Having dealt with most of them on a technical level over the years and a few of them from the customer side of things Paymentsense are certainly one of the better companies out there with a comparatively high level of caring about what's good for their customers, relatively reasonable fees and decent, modern software that always tends to move in the right direction. (my opinion of most other EFT providers would not be postable on pistonheads due to rules about sweary rants with company names in them)
