We ship a lot of product (all palletised), using containers for import/export, and also a lot of road freight within the UK (part-loads always a challenge) and across Europe.

As such a key part of our business, personal recommendations are often better than a straight Google. So ... any recommendations from the PH experience?

I used to do quite a bit of work from a supplier side with Simarco based out of Witham in Essex.

Can't speak as a customer so this may be worthless, but from what I have seen they are a great company, I dealt with the owner Simon and the Warehousing and Distribution Director Barry Spencer, lovely and principled people. I've seen them grow as a business over the years and they deserve the success. They seem to treat their employees well, always lots of happy people. They look after their suppliers, focussing on long term relationships and partnerships that benefit both sides.

I work in Freight Procurement. True European Groupage operators tend to be quite regional on the UK side (and for small shipments you need to be close enough to the UK consolidation centre to be serviced by the local delivery and collection vehicles).

I would back up Simarco as a good suggestion for certain parts of Europe. They have managed our Spanish Import network for the last five years and sell themselves as strong on the Italian. Maybe Rhenus or DSV if your main areas are more Central or Northern Europe.

Import and Export Container Freight (Short or Long Sea)- DGF, Ceva, Schenker or Damco.

Thanks All. I've reached out to a few - so far so good.

Any recommendations on Asia - USA and UK - USA? We seem to be doing 8-10 shipments a month as it stands.

What's your rough annual spend on each of the major routes? i.e. UK>UK, UK> EU > UK>North America etc etc.

in total, we probably spend £600-700k p.a. Majority is FLT UK-UK, but we have weekly FCL shipments heading to the US from the UK, China - ANZ, monthly China - UK, let alone a lot of FLT & groupage EU-UK, UK-EU.
