I've finally had it with BT and need to switch to a reliable and competitive business telephone and broadband service.

Could anyone recommend a good supplier who could switch me over in a pain free manner and not keep stitching me up when I come the end of a contract?

I have a quote from Plusnet but they seems to have stopped responding to queries and I understand they are part of BT anyway.

Cheers

What sort of scale are we talking here - if you're looking at Plusnet I'm guessing it's small - FTTC connection and a few extensions?

Despite what some in telecoms sales will tell you, there is no requirement to take your Internet and voice services from the same supplier.

I'd start with Zen for the Internet connection - https://www.zen.co.uk. Privately owned UK business, probably the biggest independent ISP in the UK now but they still employ knowledgeable support staff and engineers and don't rely on scripts. I've no experience with their voice offering but everything else I've seen of theirs is decent so it might be worth a shot.

If you want to go elsewhere for voice, I've personally had really good results with Sipgate - www.sipgate.co.uk. For a few extensions you'll want their Team service, but if it's really small Basic might do. My Grandfather has had their Basic service for several years and I've never touched it since I put it in.

I have no skin in the game with either of these vendors, I actually work for another ISP - but we only do big stuff.

As above I'd have look at Zen or A&A

We are with Andrews & Arnold (AAISP) neither of these are the cheapest option but service & support are excellent.
Been with AAISP for years and they are very good, UK operators who actually know what they are talking about.
First rate support.

We used to use Virgin with a Zen broadband fallover backup for IT and VOIP (about 20 in the office). Virginia wasnt that reliable tbh. When we moved office into a city centre we took up a leased line. It helped the cost that one had previously been installed into the building. It was about £300 a month for 100mb each way.
