One for the PH Business / Accountant Collective as I will be using a new accountant for this one.

I want to create a range of companys at Co Hse, mainly to protect the names, but possibly, ultimately to operate them differently. What are the rules and can we then have one parent company or Group registration.

Something like.

vex-retail ltd
vex-distribution ltd
vex-media ltd

vex-group ltd

If I've understood you correctly you want to ensure someone else doesn't set up a company with any of the names listed.

Each company has its own identity - so you need to set up however many companies for the name you want to protect. One for each name.

Given you mentioned Group - you should give consideration as to whether you own each company directly or have a Group company owning each of the individual companies (or combination). This will depend on your future strategy I guess.

If you're just sitting on the names though I'd have thought easiest to set up with you owning £1 share cap in each and make them dormant.

Remember to protect the name with appropriate trademarks, domain names etc too

Yes, sorting domain names at the same time, .com / .co.uk / .uk's

Less sure about trademarking. We wont have unique products, mainly reselling.

More companies is more admin. Why not have one company but several trading styles?

If one is riskier than another then I'd agree separation is a good plan.

I could (and should for the sort term) do that.

Is it worth registering the names with Co.Hse to protect them?

Can’t see why you would bother.

Trademark matters, but company name can be anything.

I operate one limited with 7 trading as brands with associated websites and telephone numbers, VOIP so cheap as chips, each brand is trademarked, both word and logo, I also have the LTD's for each brand but just leave them dormant.

Easy to operate once set up

The only reason to do separate holdcos would be if you want to be able to sell the ringfenced brands separately within their trading company.
