Anyone else here running a 'micro-business'? I think that means less than 8000kW/year. I'm coming out of contract with my current supplier (SSE), and their variable rates are high: 50p per day + 20.13ppkWh

But I can't see a comparison site that actually shows figures for business electricity. There are lots of sites that are all about gathering your phone number "so our energy experts can call you". But I can't see prices at all.

So... anyone got any suggestions or recommendations?

Wife is with British Gas, I think the prices are similar.

Quotes vary on a daily basis as they are reflective of the wholesale market.
it's the overall cost (S/C and Unit Rate) that matters, unless you are changing usage compared to before.
If you are using less, then you want a low S/C and odn't mind the higher UR.

I spent yesterday afternoon sorting this. (BG would have been quite a bit cheaper, see below)

First mistake: I used one of those comparison sites. None give quotes but all want your number, with the result that you get called non-stop by pushy reps who just won't give you the two numbers. frown

Got fed up and went to the Big 6 sites directly and got a decent deal with EDF: 25p a day and 16ppkWh. British Gas were slightly cheaper, but a website bug stopped me being able to apply online.

So, a bit of a result. I'm adding an EV charger at the unit and the lower ppkWh figure will save 20% of the cost for fuelling that.

It's a how long is a piece of string question. Depends on your consumption level, your regional supplier area and your meter type.

You can use this link to get reasonable rates once you've keyed in a few details:

If you don't want us to get commission (which is literally a few pounds a year on your spend levels), just use this link instead:

Small business here. We are with EDF 25p per day and 15.81p/kwh (7%discount included) that's electric.
