I have a small caravan that I'd like to rent out. Both Camplify and Camptoo list touring caravans on their site, but the stumbling block for both seems to be that, as the owner, you have to deliver it to wherever it's going to be setup, and collect it after.

I can get insurance to cover the caravan while its sited, but not to cover the on-road risk - none of the companies who provide touring caravan insurance will cover it for rental, and typically a car insurance policy won't cover any damage done to what's being towed either.

Am I misunderstanding the risk involved here, or is there a massive gap in the market?

If anyone can point me in the direction of someone who'd cover it, that'd be great!

Surely if you are moving it it is not 'rented' until you have delivered it? Who is to say that you are not going to use it yourself or were not using it yourself on collection?

Perhaps I wasn't clear.

I don't want to have to deliver/collect it. I want the person hiring it to collect it from me, tow it to wherever they're going and drop it back after.

The on-road risk while they're towing it is the part I can't find cover for. It's not a legal necessity, but if they total it I'd want it to be covered, and they would too!

This one seems to offer self tow

https://www.camptoo.co.uk/caravan/12139/Beckmed?st...

Might be worth contacting them.

I would expect them to produce insurance to cover it. My towing insurance does not specify the item being towed.

What kind of policy do you have, and with which company?

Have a word with www.millins.co.uk - they do a lot of self-drive horsebox cover, not quite the same but they'll at least understand what you're trying to do.

We used Yescapa to rent a motorhome last year, they arranged the insurance through Allianz for the owners as part of the hire process.

Motorhomes are easy - there's loads of companies who cover them for hire. It's specifically caravans that don't seem to be so easy.

To close the loop on this one, it's a product that doesn't exist, hence why I haven't been able to find it.
