Hello,
I engaged the services of a courier to collect a consigment on Monday last for delivery today.

It turns out that the courier is actually an agent who has contracted the job to a parcel carrier. I asked them this morning when I could expect the consigment to be collected - they can't get hold of the courier.

The vendor is very understanding despite being stuck with several hundreds of pounds worth of bulky items which should be gone by now.
The courier I paid by credit card and, in my view, have failed to meet the requirements of the written contract they entered into.

What should I do next?

It's not unusual, in fact it's very common. It's how small local courier companies manage countrywide deliveries etc.

Your contract lies with the company you instructed to collect the consignment, the fact they subcontracted it out isn't your problem.

It gets better...

The original agent "A" is now doing their damndest to meet their contractual obligation despite me cancelling the contract.

Agent "B" accepted a contract then refunded me, without caling first to explain the challenge they encountered which was due to a "national shortage of pallets".

In desperation I spoke to a friend who recommended another company, "C" who are exceedingly helpful and attempted collection today.

Unfortunately company "C" engaged the same carrier as "A" and turned up, again without a pallet (despite the contract being for supply of pallet and wrap) so have failed to collect the goods.

Company "C" is now going to ship a pallet at my cost to the local depot of the carrier so that they can do the job which they were originally tasked with by Agent A.

I despair.
