You could maybe write articles on it and have ad clicks bring you money in. Or possibly do YouTube videos talking about it if you’re interesting. Or both. If you have the traffic you could make something, whether it would make a living though…

If you are near a dark skies area you could do astronomy nights out, taking a group of people out to show them the best bits of the night sky. There have been the occasional events near me and they always seem to sell out.

A side hustle would already be an additional income, at the moment this is just an interest.

Could your work not give you some overtime hours or take a second part-time job around other commitments?

Can astronomy be classed as a ‘hustle’ ?

During lockdown I discovered a love for astronomy and have spent hours reading on the subject.

Is there any way I could turn this into a business (2nd stream of income)?
In a word, no.

If you were devote many years to academic study, you may well find roles at various astronomical institutions.

You could invest in some serious photographic gear and shoot stuff that gets published but this wouldn't yield much in the way of revenue and certainly not to the level that would cover the cost of the kit needed.

What's wrong with it just being a hobby?

As a general rule, nobody will pay you for something that took you a few hours of reading to learn how to do. On the basis they'll do the few hours of reading themselves, and not pay you.

Very true. I have a mate who uses the term ‘potential income stream’ for his various ideas, and says it as though he doesn’t expect to have to do anything but sit and watch the income ‘stream’ in - which is probably why he has no income at all at the moment.
