That's a very general question.

How much are you going to store, what sort of product is it, what volume are you moving, where is your centre of gravity?

Do you want to purchase a warehouse or engage a 3PL?

3PL

1 container a month from China (will vary between 20/40 ft)

Pallets sent out as required

I also want to move to B2C so a 3pl that can handle that, ideally Amazon seller fulfilled

We sell health and fitness equipment

Warehousing in Poland is affordable, There is a new motorway being built between Poznań and Bydgoszcz and I usually see warehouses to rent when I travel that route. Road is due to be completed next year which would make it very strategic for distribution.

You can also get grants/funding from the EU for setting up a “branch” here. Kujawsko Pomorski (the county we are based in) are really trying to persuade business to relocate to the county. Roads are still generally a bit rubbish however if you have a warehouse on one of the main S roads you could be on to a winner.

Place called Znin that I pass through a few times a week has recently finished its dual carriageway and within months warehouses have started popping up everywhere. Gydnia port is 3 hours away (at hgv speeds too)

Taxes are high as is ZUS (national insurance) but as a Director of a LTD company or a Branch of an existing U.K. company you should avoid these completely.

I know and use a very good Accountant too (speaks English too)

As ever, there are a bunch of variables to consider, including the relative cost of onward shipping for your particular shipping profile, cost of customs clearance, availability of staff who speak English, taxes & tax laws, etc.

For the business that's taking up most of my time right now, we've set up in the Netherlands. We might be able to get a slightly cheaper deal in Poland, but the flip side (amongst many) is that we'd be paying higher shipping rates for getting the product to our customers. In our case, we're not holding stock for all that long, so physical storage costs aren't so much of an issue.

If setting up a branch (as opposed to a subsidiary), be careful about VAT treatment of some goods movements. There are a few potential traps.

If establishing a subsidiary, think about the corporate structure. For instance, if you have a holding company / another subsidiary in Estonia, there's no corporation tax on non-distributed profits. So it is a good place to park profits if you're going to want to keep them in the business for some reason.
