Exporting to eu

Hi there, I’m in the process of starting a fresh Scottish produce export business to predominately France.

Long story short we will be landing Langoustines and lobster at various Scottish locations which are then sent onto Glasgow to be processed and then exported.

I’m fully aware of the nightmare other companies have been having with health certs etc when exporting live products such as Langoustines and lobster etc. From what I have read these are becoming less ominous now.

My questions are

1) do we need to register for vat etc in the eu ?

2) is there any Hmrc guidance on this sort of business readily available ?

3) can anyone advise me on what sort of export proof we need?

You should find and engage with your local DiT rep (Department for International Trade).

They have people specifically to help companies like yours on issues surrounding compliance. Their advice will either be free or very good value.

I caught the end of a BBC program (Panorama) about Brexit, 6-months on, last night.

The Scottish shellfish producers were totally bogged down with paperwork - 80 sets for one shipment to the EU. Meanwhile they were selling huge quantities to the Far East. Huge orders were appearing from nowhere because of the high quality.

It left the impression that French consumers would be the long-term losers. Wish I had seen the whole program.
