Looking speculatively at a business which comes under a council lease with about 15 years for the shop front aspect.

What I’m wondering is if anyone has experience on how long councils traditionally do business leases for and what sort of financials that entails.

I’m aware that’s a ‘how long is a piece of string question’ potentially but ball park answers would be fine.

Would like to extend that lease if buying but not sure if 15 years is seen as a long lease or a short one to councils

If it’s retail then a 15 year lease these days is extremely long! I doubt they would object to extending it unless they have plans to redevelop

It’s a takeaway restaurant if that helps

3-5 years was the options last time I extended my lease with the council.
