The business will be running race timing. We will work from home 95% of the time using our computers to setup the timing, and on event day we go to the track/field where the race is organised by usually a running club, and time the runners using timing equipment.

The organisers have liability insurance with the race licence, but this does not include us.

I have no idea where to look as the mainstream insurers only offer things like computer consultancy, any good brokers out there?

Speak to Wendy or Andy at www.millins.co.uk

A 'traditional' small brokerage but know their stuff & have looked after me for years. Well used to 'unusual' requests.

Direct Line don't list anything remotely like race timing. Plastering, accounting, all the usual mainstream stuff. I suppose we can have runners with celebrity taking part so there is an additional risk, just like car insurance not liking journalists etc.

thumbup

Did you speak to them, or do it online? I've found the hoooomans on the phone to be quite helpful. (They helped me when my situation wasn't listed)

Could try Hiscox. I think they can deal direct otherwise would recommend going with a broker albeit likely cost more but you will get the correct cover.

Why is it likely to cost more via a broker?

Crazy thought, but aren’t they more likely to know which insurers will actually cover it? And which ones that are likely to be more more competitive

Nb - hiscox direct can only sell you products where your trade “fits in a box”. When it doesn’t they sell your details to a broker……who I know well and he is ends up placing 1 in 4 with hiscox…….masness
