Something of a new position i find my self in.

After 30 years of being employed i started my own business a couple of years ago and it hasn't been doing too badly. Comms & networks so pulling cables to server config but in a specialist arena.

Up until now i've used agency staff when needed, sub 14 days usually however i've a meeting about a contract that'll be 6+ months for upto 6 additional team members. It's unlikely another contract of this size will come along within the next 24 months and will add circa 60% to my T/O this year.

I've the cash to fund so not worried about cash flow, client is known to me and pays on time every time. I've managed teams of upto 60 in the past but in a different environment so aware of how much it can be a ball ache at times. Whilst also being very rewarding, at times.

Even when allowing for the additional costs of NI, Pension and Holiday pay i'll probably be about £4k per person better off over the 6 months employing them directly, which is a lump of cash for the business.

The difficulty i have is being in this situation for the first time so would you employ or go agency?

Employ.

Your accountants will help with payroll administration, and you'll have direct contact with people you may wish to use again in the future.

Plus, the ballache of managing subbies workong for you on a client's site can be bad.

ETA: A downside could be that, for a fixed-term contract, they will want more money.
