So I just read with interest how Muhu drinks brand was formed on a £1300 budget and managed to raise 150k for product and just got acquired for a seven figure sum, all in 3 years.

One of the products is a CBD infused gin, and they also have vodka products I think.

I'm fascinated by this. The person who set this up presumably didn't have her own distillery, so is it likely they buy in a "base" gin and add the CBD, pour into an own label bottle and flog it?

Impressive stuff either way and hats off etc

Thanks

These guys do contract distilling…had a long chat when there for a Land Rover Experience next door.

They would happily do your own mix if you wanted to try out a brand.

Is gin still fashionable? I think the key is to catch the next trend. Whisky?

THANKS x

Have an idea for my own drinks brand (not necessarily gin :grin) and fancy having a crack for small outlay.

What new things can you add to the whisky industry?

It'll take far more planning given how long it takes to make whisky.

Judging by the discussion I had with them, “flavoured moonshine” appears to be the new gin.

Wheres the value in buying this brand? It doesn’t have a large following, no real sales figures and not patented formula? How does it get valued at “7 figures”?

Good question. I'm just going by a post I saw on LinkedIn. It may be BS. I was more interested in how a booze business becomes bootstrapped but before buying stock she bought branding and logos, apparently.. The actual drinks apparently are the easy part but at the cost of narrower margins I expect.

I can understand the branding side being the key for acquisition, but this brand had no real following on any social media channels, apart from a evening standard article…

Look at AU vodka - that is a brand built on social media via influencers and placement. I thought it would be the same for this, but no..

Potentially could of got a bounce back loan (£50k based on projections) and then used that to fund it, i guess if she had no money and her £150k raise failed.

There is articles from last year that were saying demand for CBD infused drinks was dropping.

I've never tried any of them.
