Guidance needed as to if this is doable and if so what am I looking for...

Want to put some display/lead generation stands into third party shops, think the Hermes machine in the corner shop. These would highlight our offering and customers could get info/watch video and ultimately enter their details. Knocking up a product display and/or exhibition type stand is no problem, but the tech- could it be as simple as a tablet hooked up to the shop wifi, permanently plugged into power? Or is there a name for an off the shelf solution I'm looking for?

I'm sure this must already be a thing, but I can't remember actually seeing it anywhere...

I believe they are often called "kiosks". "Tablet kiosk" seems a common term.

As above - you want to run a kiosk app (eg. the aptly named Android-Kiosk on Android) which allows you to lock down the tablet, only run certain apps, only navigate to certain URLs, remote control the tablet, see where it is geographically, update software remotely and so on.

Thanks to both, that's exactly what I meant.

Would a simple poster with a QR code not be more simple and cost effective.

I certainly wouldn't be entering any personal details in to a tablet/kiosk as you've described.

A link to your website that I can check over first, that's different and allows me to do my own due dilegence first.

Out of interest why?

People give us their name/phone/email every day via the website, why would this be any different? It might even just be the contact us page of the site on the tablet, I haven't thought about the process in any detail.

My issue with a QR code would be that older folk would struggle (and therefore just ignore/abandon), and we don't tend to sell to under 35s.

By the same token I can't see old folk wanting to watch a video on a tablet in a corner shop and enter their contact details on it.

It wouldn't be corner shops, that was just an example of a machine in a third party premises. Our thing would be in places where older people do go, and do spend money. Garden centres, furniture shops, DIY sheds etc. Essentially the guy at the door of B&Q trying to sell you double glazing but without the guy.

When I say older I don't mean geriatric, our market is mostly 35-70 or so.

I suppose a banner with options to get in touch would suffice, a QR code as well as phone no, email etc, with a 'quote B&Q Stirling' or whatever to try to record interest. Definitely cheaper than a tablet kiosk, I'm just wondering if it's a bit 'dumb', not much better than a poster on a wall.

I'm just thinking out loud here, no issue with being shot down in flames. smile
