Racking up the miles trailering as a business full time on my ten year old Pajero, I think it's time to buy something new....or nearly new.

Whilst the new Shogun 3.2 is hard to beat, what are the alternatives??

And which payment route should I go down? Borrow and buy outright or lease/rent -incl. or excl. servicing?? Bare in mind I'll be doing 40,000 miles per year plus.

Time scales? Renew every year?

It appears to be a mine field....

I'm not that bothered with new and would look at a year or two year low mileage example so depreciation is less.

I would suggest looking at a pickup rather than an SUV. If you are running as a limited company tax on pickups is far cheaper.

As for choice of pickup I would go for an Isuzu Rodeo.
I had a test drive in one a couple of months ago and was very impressed. It was a lot more car like to drive than I expected it to be. The Price was around 20K. Its also won a couple of awards from What Van.

If your doing 40K a year Contract Hire will be a killer on pretty much anything. The reason I didnt get the Isuzu was the leasing quotes were around £500 a month for 10K a year so I would suggest going the standard finance route.

Troble with a pickup is that when it's not loaded or towing it'll bounce around like a bouncy thing in bouncy town on bouncy day.

Drove a Nissan Pathfinder the other day - think they start at £24k ish for a new one, might be some ex-demos around but they'll be kitted up so no cheaper.

If you can, try one with the built in sat nav and bluetooth - great toy and useful if you're on the road all day.
