Can anyone recommend an expat medical insurance company / broker?

I'm working overseas (Caribbean) for 1-2 years and need to get some decent but good value insurance for my time away.

Thanks

My work one is with Allianz, so we're on a tailored package which is probably different than you would get as an individual.

The version I have covers 90% of pretty much everything (new glasses every couple of years, physio every few weeks, dental hygienist, my wife's prescriptions, etc.) I just pay, upload the receipt, and they pay me back within a few days. We also have the option to pay a bit more to cover 100% of a lot of stuff but we don't put enough trough it to make it worthwhile. You do need a referral for some stuff, but I don't for the physio.

Thanks - where are you based?

I'm happy to pay for the stuff you describe, but I want medivac just in case the worst happens

I'm in NL but we have people across most of Europe and in the US. There are some restrictions on our package in the US though, but it still covers all emergency care.

Medivac is included on one of the packages I can pay a bit more for (but I don't as work cover that separately if I'm on a work trip, and I have personal travel insurance) so I'd assume they'd do it as an option for a personal plan. Sounds like you're wanting just emergency medical insurance, whereas ours is more a comprehensive medical plan.

I'm guessing in the Caribbean you'd want to make sure you have something that gives good coverage in the US. A friend had a serious accident while on holiday in Cuba and was medevaced to Florida where her hospital bill (fully paid by her travel insurance) was eye watering.

Can you not negotiate for this to be included in the package provided by your employer?

We can arrange BUPA global if it’ helps. It’s the Rolls Royce of PMI but has a RR price tag too. Drop me a message if it’s of interest.
