Hi...

So a few years ago I got some excellent advice/mentoring from DSLiverpool about setting up a landing page not dissimilar to his own in order to get some interaction with potential leads.

I spoke to his website guy and I didn't get very far as he was very busy and a friend put me in touch with his website builder and they were going to charge me 500+VAT for a Wordpress one page landing page. This was at end of 2023.

I have been putting her off several times as I have not had a chance to get a headshot image of my mug, and to write the copy I want, and I have been busy with existing work it has not really been a priority.

Yesterday she kindly emailed me saying its now 2025, and her quote was 2023 prices (albeit Nov 23) and its now 2025... and she wants £995+VAT.

Again, kindly, she said she would refund me my deposit I had already given (£300) and that is that.

In 2025, how much would you think I should pay for a simple one page landing page?

Thanks in advance

Anywhere from free to 99$ using something like framer.com

If you really can't be bothered to do it, then £500 for someone to knock up a decent framer/webflow/wordpress landing page is probably fair.

Since you seem to have straightforward requirements, you can probably find someone overseas to do it cheaply on fiverr.com... this guy seems to have good reviews + is cheap: https://www.fiverr.com/tiyam_foyraz/design-respons...

If you want a PHer to do it, I would be able to put something together pretty quickly so feel free to pm me.

Depends on what you really want but £500 is a reasonable figure. I know Dave's landing page so I have a idea what you would require.

For the above we could include a year of our hosting too !

We support a number of guys on here too with Wordpress websites , Ecommerce , Digital Marketing etc

thanks, yeah I think 500 is reasonable, and the woman I was dealing with was very helpful and pleasant, just wasn't sure doubling her price over the course of two years was a bit much.

yes £995 + VAT is at the top end. It depends what extra you are going to get for your money. If they are very busy or have high overheads then this will affect the quoted costs.

Give it a go with Wix, you can build something credible with no tech knowledge.

If you want a landing page in order to build interaction with potential leads you have to factor in not just building the actual page but the work to drive traffic to it.

Very true, I plan to dress up my LinkedIn, make more short form content (relevant to my skills) and punt the website on there, also planning on maybe some car magnet decals to advertise when I am going to different sites, perhaps some local ads, dressing up my google my business, etc.

planning on the call to action being a no charge no commitment 30 min chat relating to what I can offer.

Agree (Or Square Space).. for the lack of complexity you are asking for, I'd be tempted to spend a day trying it myself.

Any of the free or paid site builders will do that and you can easily do it yourself with no experience as youtube is filled with step-by-step tutorials. You just need to buy your domain name from NameCheap (about a tenner a year) and get some shared hosting (also about a tenner) and you'll be up and running within the hour.

Be aware that most webdevs will try to lock you in to a monthly subscription plan under the excuse of doing "maintenance" and security updates. The former is nonsense and security updates are overblown and can be done in 2 seconds yourself by logging in to your website cPanel and clicking the 'update' button. It's a nice little earner for them for doing 2 seconds of work if a new patch drops, but ultimately it's a waste of money.

£500 (never mind £1000) is stupid money for a one page website and they are having your pants down. It's an hour's work, tops, if you are providing them with a copy and paste of what you want to show on the page. For that money I'd want a written guarantee that my site is on page 1 of google search results.

Also have a look on Fivver. Loads of web bods that will do you a one page for very little.

I'd avoid DIYing. You can but it'll probably look a bit crap and take way longer than you want.

yeah not going to do it DIY... not got the experience or time to do it. thanks, couple of UK based folk on fiverr seem really reasonable and their websites look superb.

Fiverr is where most of the UK webdevs charging £500 per hour go to get clients' websites done. They simply farm out the work to Pajeet in Mumbai who uses an off-the-shelf template and charges £10 with 1-day delivery, then delivers it to your webdev, Dave in Brighton, who spends 10 minutes fixing all the typos, then delivers it you whilst pocketing a cool £490 profit wink .

This will look amateur I advise against it. Currently over 4 years that basic site has bought me over £250k directly and indirectly. It get a lot of views, had never been updated and I think is still copyright 2024 !! Must find the log in.
