Business lease car insurance
Discussion
Hello,
For a limited company looking to provide company car on business lease, the registered owner is the leasing company. Yet, the Ts&Cs of lease include securing a fully comprehensive insurance ourselves. Such insurance cover isn't offered for 1-2 cars as such. So what other options are available? Can anyone recommend insurance company which insures such cars not in the name of the limited company?
I am the Director and will be using the car for business and private use. But I am unable to find an appropriate insurance provider for this scenario. Kindly advise.
Thanks

My company has a small number of leased cars, no problem with insurance using Aviva. For a limited company looking to provide company car on business lease, the registered owner is the leasing company. Both my wife and I are Ltd co directors of our own businesses. She has a company van for catering and I have a company car for driving tuition. Her van is owned by her company and my car is leased to my Ltd company. For a limited company looking to provide company car on business lease, the registered owner is the leasing company. Both are insured in our personal names, with mine showing the owner and registered keeper is the lease company. Hers shows her company as the owner and her personally as the registered keeper. Whilst we don't use them for personal use as we have other vehicles, they are insured for it.
I have used Aviva's business insurance for her old van last year, which was actually cheaper than the same policy (also with Aviva) with the same drivers but be careful. If you want to use NCB on this policy it goes into the name of your Ltd co and won't transfer back to you afterwards. I lost 7 years NCB this way as they jacked the renewal price but also don't offer hire and reward (which we now need).
Just get some insurance quotes with the lease company as the owner and keeper. As you're a director of the company that pays for the lease you have an insurable interest so it shouldn't be a problem.
If you plan on expanding and having employees etc then Aviva's policy is a good way to go.
Some insurers I know that can do what you need:
• Admiral (and any other variant - Bell/Diamond/Elephant)
• Direct Line
• Aviva

I have used Elephant Insurance for my own car insurance for years. They are part of Admiral and have a Cardiff call centre. Boss delegated insuring his new contract hire FF Range Rover to me & I tried many companies but Elephant's customer service was excellent & their employee (Nathan?) made times to call back (boss was abroad) & sorted out a really good price for a car in the company name, but insurance in boss's name - several complications including high value car, high risk (FF RR) & Sir's driving history.
Give Elephant a call, hope that you get Nathan (but my previous experience is that most of their people are of top calibre).
Even if Elephant were a little more expensive than other quotes I'd use them.
Recommended.
