Just had notification from our electricity supplier that they've made a mistake on our capacity charge and have under charged us, so they are back dating it and adjusting the direct debit next month.

Price has changed from 3.48p/kva to 7.41p/kva

We are on a 3yr fixed contract for another 12 months so not really sure why this has changed. Anybody else had this, I've sent an email to get an explanation but they won't reply over the weekend and they sent it at 5:30 on Friday!

You should be able to check it as the prices are published and the Electricity Supplier then passes it on.

Who is the supplier?

Smartest

So prices can change even on a fixed contract? I dont have access to my contract at the moment to check myself.

There are various types of fixed contract. Some are fixed unit rates but then pass through on the transport and other charges (TNuos, Duos, MOP, DA, DC etc etc), so need to check your contract you signed. Does it state the rate for the capacity charge or is it pass through?

It's usually pence per kVa per month, so if they've underbilled by 3p for say 100kVa that's an extra £3 per month, so inless you are a massive consumer of energy then it's not going to be a significant cost change.

Send me a DM happy to take a look at a bill, the contract and the notice they've sent you FOC.

If they are trying to charge you for more than 12 months backdated usage they could fall foul of the back billing rules.

Worth a quick google.

Sounds like a billing error more than a contract change. I'd wait for their official reply before stressing too much.

Isn't it £3 a day?
Certainly says capacity charge 7.41p/kva per day on our invoices.
We are also having a reactive power charge back dated but its only £10 so not too worried.

I'll have to dig out the contract when I get back to work on Tuesday and have a look.

Bit of a bitter pill to swallow suddenly getting a bill for
over £600, especially as we are overpaying on our electricity rates already.
