Share Portfolio For My coursework
Discussion
I need to get approximatly 6 to 10 different shares for a portfolio. unfortunatly we have to do this before being properly taught how to do it. Anyone got any suggeestions. We run for only 6 weeks, so I am not after outstanding performance, just something to make a nice percentage increase.
We are using a hypothetical £1000 investement.
any ideas would be much appreciated.

1) Tear out the shares pages of "The Times"
2) Buy a pack of 5 darts from your local sports shop.
3) Stick page onto the wall using Blu-Tack.
4) Throw the 5 darts at the page, then pick the stocks that each respective dart lands on.
THEN
Pick another 5 using whatever-method-you-so-wish and after the alloted time see which one's perform best.
You might be surprised at how the 'random' stocks perform...
Also, go to your library and get the book "The Zulu Principle" by Jim Slater, a very famous investment strategist / corporate raider of the 1960's and 70's. The principles are still relevant today

I think Jim Slater eventually went bankrupt.
I think he probably did, but I've not heard of anything by Warren Buffett, so he's the only one I know of!!!
Incidentally, there was an article recently about hoe the government bailed out Slater-Walker to the tune of over £100 million after a pensions shortfall. Sounds like he was a Robert Maxwell ahead of his time...
