Thinking of going online business(es) ChatGPT Plus worth it?
Discussion
I'm currently now nearly 5 months out of work with no end in sight. I'm now at the stage where I think I need to start with a "Plan B" which was to do what many people would consider "side hustles" while I look for work, with an aim to do more than one hustle and perhaps, if I'm lucky, turn it into my full time job.
I am aware it's going to be difficult but I may as well do something with my spare time. I'm not aiming to earn megabucks (but if I do, great), if I can eventually replace a modest UK average salary then I'm fully on board with this idea.
Anyway, recently I've received a lot of help from ChatGPT, on the free plan. A mate of mine who is also running his own little hustles swears by paying the £20 a month for the ChatGPT Plus.
I must admit being able to lean on it as much as I want without it complaining I've ran out of responses until the next day would be very useful.
I've already used the free plan to create a timetable for the next 30 days of actions for my plans.
However I am not earning anything right now, but I can afford it, so would you say that it's a no-brainer to get this? I do find it a very useful and powerful tool, it even knows more about me now than I know about myself
The alternative is obviously to stick with the free plan but utilise multiple AI agents to do the same work.
Any thoughts?

Brutal maths: Currently you use Chat GPT a lot but earn nothing. Do you think that by paying £20pcm you will earn more than £20pcm? What is your actual business?
I don't have one yet, I'm about to start working on it / them. The businesses I have in mind aren't AI based businesses (well, not yet anyway), I'm just using it like an assistant.bunchofkeys said:
Take what you currently have in ChatGPT, copy the text into another AI interface like Gemini, Copilot, Claude and carry working.
When the limit kicks in, copy it all and past it into another one.
Rise and repeat.
Yeah this is sort of what I've been doing up till now, I was wondering if there's any extra utility in paying. Better outputs for example? My mate was adamant that the free one hallucinates more than the paid one. But if not then I see no reason to pay. When the limit kicks in, copy it all and past it into another one.

Not a bad idea. When the limit kicks in, copy it all and past it into another one.
Rise and repeat.
However, keep in mind that the premium version doesn't just give you more credits but the depth and quality of the responses improves. I've only recently gone paid-for with ChatGPT and am constantly asking myself why I didn't do it sooner.
As to whether it's worth the investment - and perhaps risk - to you, only you can decide. £20 is not a lot but is everything if you're struggling.

I do use ChatGPT pretty heavily in day to day life and would likely use it even more going forward.
Spending £20 a month wouldn't be the end of the world to me, although I do wish it was a little cheaper, £10 would be a no brainer.
The only other subscriptions I have are Prime (£9 shared between me and Mrs), mobile phone (£10) and Google Drive (£1.60), don't have anything else, so if it was genuinely useful then it might be money well spent, but I am mindful not to waste money needlessly too.
Think of it as a productivity multiplier. It's an e-bike, not a motorbike, you need to be pedalling somewhere.
use the time when you run out of credits to tick off some of the tasks it helped you create!
I'm only half-joking, I once downgraded my Claude Max £200 down to £85 plan because I found the forced rest and the gameplay loop quite productive, it's good to be kicked out of it occasionally. Although in this case it's only four hours, I can imagine it being a bit more annoying if it's the next day.
In addition to the GPT, XAI, Gemini, Anthropic, Meta, etc. There are quite a few Chinese startups you can bounce between

That is a fair point, I always try and make sure I include enough detail in my prompts before I click send to make sure I'm close the response I want straight away, and yes, also a good point about actually taking action on what it suggests use the time when you run out of credits to tick off some of the tasks it helped you create!

Also, I read an article this morning mentioning that Anthropic is not trying to compete with OpenAI on the chatbots, and most of its efforts go into its more vertically integrated offerings such as Claude Code
So I think this should probably guide your decision on what to subscribe to. If you want to use Chatbot mostly, then I think a ChatGPT Pro subscription is probably a good investment for things like discussions and brainstorming. this is what it's optimised for.
However, if you want to do any kind of vertical processing, by which I mean specific.things like writing code, image generation or using a speech-to-text API, I would research which provider offers the best accuracy for that particular vertical. It's probably not going to be ChatGPT or a chatbot.
