how to start a forum up

Hi
can anyone give advice on starting a forum,anyone know of where to go about getting one started,who builds them etc.
Have seen this website,http://www.phpbbforfree.com havn't had chance to have a good look yet.Anyone got any thoughts on it.

I have setup quite a few forums for my various clients, feel free to drop me an e-mail through my profile.

I generally tend to use PHPBB, once setup it is fairly straight forward.

Buy a VDS Pro.

Click INSTALL next to phpBB 2.0.18 (very latest)

You can run phpBB anywhere, you dont need a specific host, pick one with a good reputation first and foremost, a search of this forum for hosting should lead you to a reasonable conclusion.

Its simple to install and manage, the key is attracting the community...

Plotty is absolutely right, just check that the host you do choose either allows you to either upgrade the phpBB they provide you, with patches at they come along (some hosting platforms used customised phpBB installs which fail with chunkerrors on patch), or one that will provide you with the updated versions are they drop on the market.

There are millions of 'hosts' out there, find one that you like the look of, ideally one that someone you know is actively using at present, and try your luck.
