Hi, just a question for the initiated. Wife has been asked to sit as chairperson for local playgroup. If no one takes post it will fold. Funding is provided by council BUT two other ladies have already turned this position down when asked citing fears over comeback if problems arise.
I don't know enough really to advise her esp questions of responsibilities etc, etc.

Anyone care to advise please?

cheers

MoJo.

The basic reason chair people are required is to oversee and "chair" meetings of a managemnt committee of whatever the entity happens to be. Depending on the organisation, they may have other obliogations with other outside bodies - such as meetings with councils etc.

Does the group have a rule book? If it does, the role and respnsibilities of each individual on the committee should be outlined.

Yes Eric, it as I thought mostly. Having delved further there are systems in place for vetting etc (which was my greatest concern being a childrens group)and they seem to have a robust set of instructions and constitution.

cheers
