Does anyone know what the legal situation is regarding putting adverts in fields next to motorways etc. like the ones you see attached to truck bodies or free standing.

Also if anyone has a spare field, let me know as I would like to put one up!

If it's free-standing you need planning permission form the council, and it's a pain. If it's on the back of a movable object (e.g. a trailer) then you just ask the farmer nicely if you can store a billboard on his trailer and pay him for his trouble of making sure it's parked in the corner of a field near the motorway thankyouverymuch.

Job done.

Supposedly a serious crack down on this is on the way, in of course the name of road safety, because we don't have time to look at the road, what with constantly checking our speedometers and looking at roadside billboards.

I agree these don't work most of them advertise a website or phone number, like you would have time to right it down as you drive past people just forget them.

I've seen lots of em round the m25 but can't remember what a single one was advertising

Good idea, I might get some lad to stand in the hard shoulder with a big board and arrow pointing to where we are...
