Having read through this forum, I am very impressed with the advice and support.
Now I need some.!!
I am a Race Engineer and am looking to spread my wings a little.
I propose to do proffesionaly, what I have been doing casually for some time.
I am setting up a Motor Sport consultancy along these lines.

Motor Sport Consulants
If you are interested to compete in Motor Racing or just wish to enjoy a track day in your road car.
We can tailor a programme to suit your schedule or aspirations. We have over 20 years experience in professional motorsport

RAC MSA race license,
Sourcing suitable car, saloon or single seater.
Determine appropriate championship
Securing a race team to prepare the car
Secure personnel or team to support the car at events.
Locate storage and transport
Complete documentation and logistic
Track day venues
Race driving coaching
In fact, everything you need to ensure you enjoy your spare time, not wasted organising and negotiating.
Do what you do best, earning the funds to pay another what they do best.

I have looked at adverising in the Sunday naional press, which is very exphensive.
Web site, sensible costing but how to promote.
Specialist press, too reader specific.

I would appreciate any help / advice on possible pifalls and best publications to appeal to well funded customers who would pay an annual retainer for these services.

Thanks in advance
Graham

Online, the best option as far as I can see is Google's AdWords.

I'll also be willing to give you free exposure on my site, until a better offer comes along...

Drop me an email if you want to go with this.

As its motoring related how about dropping Ted an email and seeing if you can get some advertising space on Pistonheads

Google AdWords good as well but don't bother bidding for 'Motorsport' or 'Consultancy' as the PPC value will be huge. Go for more specialist terms that are relevent to your job and you'll pay much less for the top positions. Feel free to email me about this.

Might also be worth contacting Red Letter Day. I have heard that some suppliers got burned working with them but as tey are now under new ownership it may be different now.

What do you mean by specialist press? I'd have thought an advert in a magazine such as Autosport would be a good bet if you were interested in print advertising.

I wouldn't ever bother advertising in a national newspaper unless you have excess marketing budget you are looking to burn or sell something which the general public want, which you don't.

Get a Web site up and running as soon as you can. Free promotion can be had through forums (like this), submit it to online directories, search engines are a God-send, set up links to other motoring, autosports, owners club Web sites etc.

A good Web designer will be able to advice you on how you can promote your site and *should* do alot of the leg work for you.
