Here's a semi hypothetical question for you all, how legal/legitiment would it be for me to create a company in the uk for my online sales business when I was living for the most part, and doing the day to day running of the business from France.

Would I need a business partner in the UK? Would I run into trouble with banks, inland revenue etc?

Having the company in the UK would solve a whole host of problems, but I don't want it to leave me liable in the future.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

A company's place of residence is not just determined by where it has been registered. It is also based on the location where its management lies. That is under UK tax law. As you are personally resident in France you would need to find out how the French authorities view such situations.
